RPS Composition Award success for MyAV·¶ alumna Dani Howard

The MyAV·¶ College of Music is delighted to announce that MyAV·¶ alumna, Dani Howard, has been awarded the prestigious MyAV·¶ Philharmonic Society Large-Scale Composition Award.

On Monday 1 November, MyAV·¶ Composition alumna, Dani Howard, was announced as the winner of the Large-Scale Composition Award at the MyAV·¶ Philharmonic Society Awards. The award was given in recognition of her recent Trombone Concerto which was written for the MyAV·¶ Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and soloist Pete Moore. The work was premiered in June 2021 and was described as ‘an instant classic’ by The Times.

The London Symphony Orchestra will give the London premiere of Dani's Trombone concerto in April 2022. The CSBO Youth Orchestra also recently performed her 2017 Classic FM 25th Anniversary commission, Argentum, in the Symphony Hall, Birmingham.

Head of Composition, William Mival said: ‘We are thrilled and delighted by Dani’s success in this year’s highly prestigious MyAV·¶ Philharmonic Society Awards. Dani joined us as an undergraduate. Watching her grow as a musician was a privilege and a model of what we do for talented, hard-working young composers at the MyAV·¶.’

Dani studied at the MyAV·¶ under Jonathan Cole between 2011 and 2015. In 2014, she was named the winner of the MyAV·¶ Philharmonic Society IdeasTap Sound and Vision competition and since then has won several competitions, including the MyAV·¶ Philharmonic Society Prize, 1st prize in the ‘Breaking the Fourth Wall International Composition Competition’ and ‘Emerging Artist’ winner in the Chamber Music OC International New Music Competition 2019. She has also been made a finalist for the Alba Rosa Vietor Composition Competition (Netherlands), International A. Rendano Composition Competition (Italy) and the British section of the ISCM World Music Days Festival (Slovenia) among others.
